Defence Secretary John Healey has announced a new initiative aimed at recruiting gamers and cyber experts into the UK’s online defense forces, reflecting the evolving nature of threats in modern warfare.
In a move to modernize recruitment, Healey highlighted that over 100 outdated policies barring potential recruits—including those with minor health issues—have been updated or scrapped since Labour took office.
Healey emphasized the urgency of adapting recruitment processes to the contemporary landscape, noting, 'As the world changes, and threats evolve, we also need to ensure our recruitment is right for the 21st century.'
The new cyber track for military recruitment will feature unique training requirements, aiming to expedite the inclusion of skilled individuals who can counter emerging cyber threats from adversaries like Vladimir Putin.
