Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed doctors found a worm in his brain that supposedly consumed part of his brain tissue before dying, likely a pork tapeworm larva.
Infectious disease experts and neurosurgeons stated that parasites, like Taenia solium, do not 'eat' brain tissue. The human immune system walls off the larva, causing it to die.
Neurocysticercosis, resulting from cysts of pork tapeworm larvae, can be fatal and cause seizures. It spreads through microscopic eggs ingested from infected feces.
