Patrick Roy said the Islanders rallied from a 3-0 deficit with a second-period burst and controlled long stretches of play, creating multiple overtime chances. Two costly turnovers swung the game and turned a likely two-point performance into a one-point shootout loss. The power-play goal ended an extended drought and the trio of Bo, Heineman and Max Shabanov created spark; Roy called Shabanov outstanding. Kyle Palmieri executed a gutsy play to set up the first goal but suffered an injury that "doesn't look very good." Roy defended David Rittich, noting he faced only three shots in the first period.
