Although often called green huts because of their color, the huts are actually properly called cabmen's shelters, created to provide shelter to cabbies in the Victorian era, with at least 13 still in use across London today.
George Armstrong, the editor of the Globe Newspaper, founded the Cabmen's Shelter Fund in 1875, utilizing the help of MPs and philanthropists to build huts that not only offered protection but also served hot food and drinks to drivers.
