France's conservative Republicans party removes leader Eric Ciotti for trying to strike an electoral alliance with the far-right National Rally (RN) of Marine Le Pen. Ciotti insisted he remained in his post but was unanimously removed by the party's political committee.
Ciotti faced opposition from within the party after announcing an alliance with the RN on TV, leading to a mass revolt among Republican heavyweights. Aurelien Pradie stated Ciotti lost the presidency the moment he made the alliance decision.
