Under the missiles: U.N. force caught between Israel and Hezbollah
Briefly

The U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), established to monitor peace since 1978, now faces the challenges of sustaining calm amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Spanish Lt. Col. José Irisarri expressed that the UNIFIL patrols, initially intended to monitor borders, have evolved into a more complicated role, mediating and attempting to prevent escalation of hostilities.
"We are not acting against anyone. But if UNIFIL wasn't here, I am very sure the situation will escalate," Irisarri emphasized, highlighting the critical role of peacekeepers.
Over the years, UNIFIL has shifted from primarily monitoring violations to actively working on the ground to prevent conflict from erupting into a larger war.
