Joe Thornton successfully completed his 24th and final NHL season with the Florida Panthers in 2021-22 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Following this achievement, he has been appointed as a player development coach and hockey operations advisor by the San Jose Sharks. He previously played for the Sharks for 15 years after being traded from the Boston Bruins, his original team after being selected first overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
