Pulitzer Prize–winning novelist and playwright Ayad Akhtar has built a reputation for plays that tackle heavy themes such as racism, religion, economics, immigration and identity. The new stage play McNeal examines the stories people tell and the methods of telling in the age of artificial intelligence. The Stage will present McNeal as part of its 2025/2026 season, directed by Randall King and starring Bay Area actor Johnny Moreno in the title role. The production runs through Oct. 19, with a performance on Wed., Sept. 24 at 7pm; tickets are $38–$52 at The Stage, San Jose.
